MODERN CONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE 2023
The Modern Construction Conference 2023 is a forward thinking event purposely designed to bring together four key areas of construction which are changing the face of construction today.
The event aims to bring together buyers, decision-makers and manufacturers to showcase advanced digital technologies, modern methods of construction - to deliver construction projects in a sustainable cost effective manner.
MODERN METHODS of CONSTRUCTION (MMC)
Effectively, Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) describes an approach to constructing buildings more quickly, reliably and sustainably by methods such as off-site manufacturing, modular construction panels with timber or light steel framing, structural insulated panels or cross-laminated timber.
MMC saves a significant amount of programme time as construction of modular units can take place off-site in conjunction with the on-site/structural construction. Also as the majority of the construction work is carried out off-site and indoors, external factors such as inclement weather do not delay construction. Process production and repetition of process can also increase productivity, create efficiencies and reduce labour hours.
Off-site and modular construction allows for the delivery of projects at a faster and cost-effective pace. The production and delivery of large-scale construction projects, through modular construction, will meet the enormous challenges facing Ireland at the moment. We will see significantly fewer operatives on-site, as they are replaced with construction workers in factory-controlled, safe working environments, producing modular pods and buildings more economically.
MODULAR CONSTRUCTION - INNOVATION - AGILE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Digital Construction is defined as utilising digital technologies to construct more efficiently with higher quality. Many of the emerging technologies have already proven themselves and they offer numerous opportunities for the construction industry throughout the entire construction life cycle.
Digital construction technology solutions improve design, collaboration, sustainability, and communication throughout the lifecycle of a project.
Modern Construction 2023 will work to increase awareness and adoption of BIM, Virtual Design and other innovative digital construction technologies.
DIGITISATION - PRODUCTIVITY - SUSTAINABILITY
Industry 5.0 presents a vision of industry beyond efficiency and productivity and reinforces the industry's role and contribution to society. Accordingly, the well-being of the personnel is placed at the center of the industrial production processes. To achieve this, Industry 5.0 leverages new technologies to provide prosperity beyond jobs and growth while respecting sustainability concerns.
The introduction of Industry 5.0 has fuelled the debate around the smart and sustainable built environment and its affiliated fields such as construction management and smart cities. Accordingly, in construction management, the focus is now shifting to sustainable, human-centric technologies for enabling a resilient built environment.
A strong environmental focus will become integral to project success. Construction 5.0 teams will work collectively to mitigate environmental risks, focus on resource efficiency, and integrate sustainable production methods. In Construction 5.0 sustainability is an obligation.
DIGITISATION - PRODUCTIVITY - SUSTAINABILITY
ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL & GOVERNANCE (ESG)
An effective ESG framework in construction will seek to identify and measure such factors so that it can improve environmental awareness throughout the industry and encourage more sustainable design and operational choices.
Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics are shaping the development and operation of businesses around the world. The business community is increasingly challenged by regulatory, reporting, and customer demands on the societal impact of their operations across multiple dimensions, and the construction industry is not exempt from this trend.
CLIMATE - SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY - CULTURAL TRANSFORMATION
Lean construction is a combination of operational research and practical development in design and construction with an adoption of lean manufacturing principles and practices to the end-to-end design and construction process. Unlike manufacturing, construction is a project-based production process. Lean Construction is concerned with the alignment and holistic pursuit of concurrent and continuous improvements in all dimensions of the built and natural environment: design, construction, activation, maintenance, salvaging, and recycling.
